How to Apply for Bhutan Visa?

All the tourists visiting Bhutan except Indian, Bangladeshis and Maldivians needs Bhutan visa and it must be processed prior to their arrival in Bhutan.

Visa to Bhutan must be processed through a licensed Bhutanese Tour Operator (example: See Bhutan Travels). No foreign embassies or offices will issue Bhutan visa.

For processing Bhutan visa, you must send a scanned copy of Passport (photo page) with a minimum validity of 6 months from your departure date from Bhutan. You must also wire transfer Bhutan visa fee of USD $40 along with the full tour payment finalized by your respective tour operators to Tourism Council of Bhutan’s bank account (will be provided to you by respective tour operators) prior to your Bhutan visa application.

After receiving passport copy, visa fee and tour payment; respective tour operators will apply for your visa through an online system to Tourism Council of Bhutan. Tourism Council of Bhutan, after cross checking with the details will then issue your visa clearance letter within 72 working hours. This visa clearance letter will be mailed to you by your respective Tour operators. At the port of entry, upon showing this visa clearance letter, your actual visa will be stamped into your passport.

Note: Your tour money will remain in Tourism council of Bhutan’s bank account till you departs from Bhutan. Your tour operators will have access to the money only after you have left Bhutan.

Indian, Bangladeshis and Maldivians can obtain their visa at the port of entry on producing valid passport with a minimum validity of 6 months from your departure dates from Bhutan. (Indian nationals can also use their Voter Identity Card in place of passport).
