As a Mahayana kingdom, Bhutan showcases a mosaic of festivals that illuminates the sanctity of Buddhism which is deeply revered and adhered to. Tshechus are one of the kinds and most dramatic of all, which remains the highlight of the social year for most Bhutanese communities. Various mask dances dating back to 8th centuries are being performed during the Tshechus.
Other than Tshechus, there are community based festivals such as Black necked crane festival to welcome the majestic migratory birds, Jomolhari mountain festival to celebrate the culture and tradition of highlanders, Rhododendron festival to celebrate the blossoming season of this majestic flowers and Mushroom festival to showcase the native mushroom products of Bhutan.
